U.S. Open champion who dated Donald Trump looks unrecognizable after retirement

Former U.S. Open champion Gabriela Sabatini looks unrecognizable post-retirement in recent holiday snaps. The former Argentine tennis star won her one and only Grand Slam title at the U.S. Open in 1990 – a year after she dated Donald Trump.
Sabatini became a household name in tennis in the late 80s and 90s as she regularly found herself falling short on the Grand Slam stage. The Olympic silver medalist in 1988 reached four Australian Open semifinals, five French Open semifinals between 1985 and 1994 and the Wimbledon final in 1991 – reaching her highest world ranking as No. 3 in 1989.
But her triumph in New York wrote her name into the history books just months on from her being thrust into the public limelight due to her relationship with Trump.
Since her retirement in 1996 at the age of 26 after suffering a stomach injury, Sabatini has remained in the tennis sphere with her regularly appearing at events and even playing an exhibition at Flushing Meadows this year.
Sabatini’s recent Instagram posts have seen her enjoying her time at the U.S. Open, Wimbledon and in Rome during the Italian Open. Her most recent pictures away from tennis showed her dressed up on the streets of Wimbledon before arriving at the All-England Lawn Club.
The 54-year-old has been romantically linked with fellow tennis star Juan Martin Del Potro, who also lifted the U.S. Open in 2009. Potro is 18 years younger than Sabatini but the two share their sporting love with them pictured various times together on her social media.
Sabatini previously dated the future president when she was just 19 years old for around a month in 1989, when Trump was 43. Trump was said to be on a break from his future second wife Marla Marples before they wed when he courted the tennis star. However, Trump reportedly broke off their romance and reunited with Marples, while divorcing his first wife Ivana the following year.
Her tennis success earned her a reported $8.8million and has given her legendary status in her homeland. In her hometown of Buenos Aires, Sabatini has a statue alongside the likes of Lionel Messi and Diego Maradona.
The pinnacle of her career came in New York when she beat Steffi Graf in a straight sets final. And she hasn’t left the sporting scene since her untimely retirement with her a keen cyclist and also appearing as a guest at her beloved soccer team, Argentine giants, River Plate. Sabatini is still looking in incredible shape too as she shared a picture of her in a bikini flaunting her toned abs on Instagram.
