    Description

    1857 Braided Hair Half Cent.  A nice example of the last year of the denomination, obviously put away shortly after release as a souvenir of the obsolete Type. This shows extremely minor signs of what I see as wear, almost certainly from minor contact in non-numismatic storage, and a few wispy “hairlines” (not from a cleaning). This is actually more attractive than a PCGS AU Fifty-eight example I am also offering, and would either certify at the same grade or possibly as a low end Unc. Such is the nature of grading as it is hard to say with certainty that this coin cannot be considered an Unc. I will let the viewer make up their own mind - priced in line with that PCGS coin, as I am certain that this will not only grade at least that, but almost certainly CAC as well.
