Description
This listing is for one Obeche (sometimes called Ayous, Samba, Wawa, African Whitewood, Abachi or Sambawawa) 2 pc glued body blank. This body blank is wide enough to make many standard guitar/bass patterns (Telecaster, Stratocaster, etc.) but double-check your template to confirm.
This African white wood blank is kiln-dried 2 piece glued, sits flat and has been sanded to 1.78" thickness. The color is white with mahog-like with interlocking course grain. It finishes to a high lustre.
Ayous is used by luthiers as an exotic bodywood option.
According to Music Radar: "..says the body is African Basswood... it's a lighter weight wood called obeche (also known as wawa and samba, apparently).
"It's not regular basswood," confirms ... "Look, korina isn't really korina, it's African limba wood, but because no one liked that name they re-named it korina.
"This stuff is called obeche but it's like African basswood. See, basswood is kinda dead, I don't like the sound of it at all. This stuff rings⦠so it's kind of like an African basswood in its feel but it's not the same genus."
It's the lightest ... solidbody guitar this writer has ever held. In fact, it's one of the lightest solidbody electrics we've ever encountered, period."

According to the Wood Database:
"Avodire can exhibit a range of grain patterns, such as wavy, mottled, and rippled, with an almost-shimmering chatoyance, making it a popular choice for veneering applications. The wood is stable, and has a very good strength-to-weight ratio.
